Life is beautifu virus

Of course, there's an odd footnote to all this too -- namely, that "Life is Beautiful" was one of the relatively early award triumphs for Harvey Weinstein, the entertainment mogul recently convicted of rape. But the film, this far removed, shouldn't be judged by the sins of its financier and distributor. To be fair, I was single and child-free when the movie came out, which might explain why it didn't fully register with me.

Then again, crying at movies has never really been my thing, except for "Spartacus" and "Old Yeller. Even so, as the father of two now, "Life is Beautiful's" uplifting aspect -- about finding ways to endure hardships and spare one's children from them, at least as much as possible -- resonates louder and clearer.

For him, it's love at first sight. Despite she already being in a relationship with another man, Guido ultimately sweeps her off her feet. Wanting to be with her family, Dora insists she be taken too, but she is housed in the women's side of the camp. The first to reach 1, points wins the prize of a real tank. A gentle Jewish-Italian waiter, Guido Orefice, meets Dora, a pretty schoolteacher, and wins her over with his charm and humor.

Eventually they marry and have a son, Giosue. Their happiness is abruptly halted, however, when Guido and Giosue are separated from Dora and taken to a concentration camp. Determined to shelter his son from the horrors of his surroundings, Guido convinces Giosue that their time in the camp is merely a game. Despite that, the movie does not fail to point out an element of the nazi psychology demonstrated by the doctor who was obsessed with riddles.

This portrayed the nazi 'state of mind' if ever such an expression existed as a sick mentally disturbed state. Life is really beautiful as you watch Guido's relentless efforts to make a lovely exciting experience of the concentration camp to his son.

You get exhausted just watching him going through his painful day and yet you smile as he speaks to his son and makes him laugh. One can go on forever describing the creativity of this movie, but one will not be able to capture all its beauty in writing.
