The Treiman fellowships for summer research are made possible through a generous donation to the Department in honor of Prof. Sam Treiman, a theoretical particle physicist who was the chair of the Princeton Physics Department from to and remains one of the more notable influences on the department.

The Leach fellowships for summer research are made possible through a generous donation by the Charles H. Leach II Foundation. The goal is to inspire future physics majors, especially women. The Frederick Osborn fellowships for summer research are made possible through a generous donation from Mrs. He was inspired and fascinated by what could be done and learned from space. His particular focus was on solar energy. And then everybody in between. This was one of his most anticipated tasks during the summers: going through the manual, tweaking some experiments and adding new ones.

Search form. This selective program provides unique laboratory experiences for qualified undergraduates, placing each student into research groups directed by our well-respected Faculty.

For nine weeks the undergraduate summer researcher becomes part of the group, working side-by-side with post-docs, graduate students, and other undergraduates. Each student has the opportunity to play a part in cutting-edge research and be a contributing member of the research team. In addition to the valuable laboratory experience, each summer student participates in research discussion groups and safety training, and has the opportunity to participate in social activities with SURF students from other departments, summer field trips, including an industrial chemistry laboratory tour, and an end-of-summer research poster session.
